Vision Beach is excited to announce our upcoming summer program. Starting the week of Monday, May 12 and continuing until Friday, August 1. Vision Beach will be offering two options for players of all levels.
Option 1: Training Group
This group will focus primarily on individual skill set improvement and player growth in the fundamentals of beach volleyball. Sessions will include all aspects of skill development, offensive and defensive tactics, and learning through competitive games and play. This 12-week season is designed for beginning and intermediate level players who are looking to improve upon their skill set, movements, and understanding of the beach game.
Cost: 1x/week $650 (12 sessions) or 2x/week $1200 (24 sessions) (Includes training t-shirt and tank)
Training Schedule: Monday/Wednesday 6-7:30PM at West Valley College
Option 2: Competitive Group
This group will focus primarily on the advanced movements, tactics, and knowledge of the beach game as well as train with and against some of the best players in the area creating a high-level practice environment. We will be hosting two different tryout dates for players interested in participating with this group. Attending 1 tryout date for consideration is required to be evaluated for the competitive group, the dates and times of tryouts is listed below. This group is open to players of all experience levels from middle school through high school but is geared more for the high-level player with goals of competing in local and national events over the summer.
Cost: 1x/week $650 (12 sessions) or 2x/week $1200 (24 sessions) (Includes training t-shirt and tank )

Tournaments:
Players are responsible for choosing and entering tournaments with open registration (whether they are playing in the competitive group or training group). Any player can compete in events with individual/open registration, and we encourage all our players who want to play in tournaments to sign up! There will be tournaments where only the competitive group competes due to the nature of the event, such as where bids are awarded and/or a coach selects players and teams to compete (I.e. BVCA National Championships). For more information on various tournaments over the course of the summer, please check out the CBVA, AAU, P1440, AVP, BVNE, USAV, and BVCA websites.
Refund Policy:
Season Fees are due in full at the time of registration. All fees are completely non-refundable. SportsEngine offers the option to purchase insurance for an additional fee at the time of registration, which covers fees if players are unable to participate due to injury, illness, etc. Vision VBC will not provide refunds in these situations.

Staff
Dave began his beach volleyball career as a practice player for the SJSU beach program in 2016 and has continued to play as a AA rated player in the CBVA. Dave returned to San Jose State beach as a volunteer assistant coach from 2020-23 and took on the role of defensive coordinator developing the athletes on defensive techniques and game planning. Most recently, Dave coached at Mandala in 2023 as a lead coach training the advanced groups through the summer and coaching multiple teams to acquire bids to nationals. Dave is currently in his first year as head coach at San Jose City College on the indoor side and working towards developing its first beach program. In addition to coaching volleyball, he is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and has worked both at CSUMB and San Jose State as an assistant strength coach.
Julian is in his second season as an assistant coach for the San Jose State indoor and beach programs. Julian enters his fourth season with Vision, and his seventh club season overall. He has coached 14U-17U teams during that time, winning four national qualifier tournaments. Previous coaching experience includes time as an assistant coach with the Archbishop Mitty girls' program, head coach for the Bay to Bay boys volleyball club, and trainer for the Optimist high school all-star match. Julian is a graduate of San Jose State University where he majored in exercise science and clinical exercise physiology.
Alina Valenti
We are excited to have Alina join our vision beach coaching staff this summer! She began her collegiate career in at West valley where she played for 2 season both indoor and beach before transferring to University of Portland as a beach only player then finishing her career at the University of Oregon in 2024. Alina’s coaching career began in 2021 and has experience coaching both indoor and beach for local clubs and is currently an assistant coach for MVVC 17-Red. Alina continues to train and compete in local CBVA tournaments where she has earned her AAA rating. Her knowledge of the game through coaching and playing will bring a lot of value to our trainings and will be a great addition to our coaching staff.
Taylor Vales
We are very excited to have Taylor return to the beach for her second summer with Vision. She is a Vision alumni who played from 12s-18s and has worked her way through the college ranks since. Taylor played 2 years at West Valley playing both indoor and beach before transferring to San Francisco State where she competed for the National Championship this past fall and is currently playing for the Gators.
John Castillo
John has extensive experience as both a player and coach from the Junior to collegiate level as he just finished his first season as an assistant coach for USF after 3 seasons with De Anza College, and continues to coach for Bay to Bay's Beach Club. He is a student of the game with an Art of Coaching (AOC) Beach Coach certification and FIVB Beach Coaches Course Level 1 certification.
Matt Lyles
Matt Lyles is a long-time college and high school coach, including 10 years as the assistant coach at Santa Clara University under Jon Wallace. Matt was involved in all aspects of the program and helped lead the Broncos to a Final Four appearance in 2005 along with six other NCAA tournament bids. Matt also coached the Los Gatos High School boys' varsity team, guiding LGHS to a 34-2 overall record and a Central Coast Section Championship in 2004. As a player, Lyles was a two-time All American at Long Beach State and helped the 49ers win their first NCAA National Championship in 1991, earning all-tournament honors. Prior to Long Beach, Lyles played one season for Orange Coast Community College in Newport Beach. While at OCC, Lyles led his team to the California State Community College Championship and was named 1990 California Community College Player of the Year. Following his collegiate career, Lyles played three seasons for the U.S. National Team and spent four years playing internationally, helping Team Nesselande in Holland win the Dutch Championship in 1998. Lyles played beach volleyball on the AVP Tour from 1996 to 2003. Matt resides in the Bay Area with his wife Jaime and their two kids, Ethan and Parker.

Vision Beach is excited to announce our first BVCA traveling team! This program is designed to travel to multiple tournaments this year and compete against other beach clubs in duals like collegiate beach volleyball. Training will consist of game strategy, partner cohesion, and overall improvement of beach volleyball IQ and skills which will carry over to tournament play in a fun team environment. This opportunity will bring the team atmosphere athletes crave to train and compete alongside their teammates to achieve one goal.
Tryouts will be held to find athletes committed to training to compete in Club vs Club tournaments in the Club (high school) and Futures (middle school) divisions this Spring/Summer. The team will practice twice a week on Monday and Wednesday afternoons 4-6pm at West Valley College, beginning March 12 until the end of the season after Nationals July 7-11.

Vision Beach is excited to announce our 2025 Winter program! This program will run be 15 weeks training on Saturday mornings from Jan. 11 – April 19. There will be 2 separate groups, middle school meeting from 8-10am and high school from 10-12pm. We will be offering 3 different packages which include training sessions and Vision Beach gear, 5-pack ($350), 10-pack ($625), 15 pack ($900), to accommodate for the indoor club season. Current Vision Beach athletes will have priority registration, and each group will be capped at 16 athletes. We will only be offering one training group this season, limiting the number of athletes included in training. Athletes who trained with us in the summer in the Competitive training group and invited athletes will have first priority in joining the Fall program. Elite Training Group
This group will train in a high-level environment with some of the best players in the area! Training will be designed to focus on advanced fundamentals, game strategy/tactics, and overall beach volleyball IQ to elevate their tournament play.

Vision is proud to announce we are offering Vision Beach training sessions for girls of all ages and skill levels!
Our 10-week Spring training season will consist of 1-3 training sessions per week. Sessions will include instruction in all aspects of fundamental through advanced skill development and tactical play using a mix of drills and competitive games. The Spring training season is designed to create high level training opportunities for players looking to advance their skills and understanding of the beach game before the start of the spring and summer tournament seasons. Space is limited and will be offered on a first come first served basis.
Following the Spring training season, Vision Beach will offer a 10-week Summer training program to guide players through the summer tournament season, including a series of tournaments we expect to host. Advanced groups will train with the goal of competing in national bid tournaments. These advanced training groups will require tryouts (more information coming soon!).
Pre-Training Clinic
Prior to the start of the training season, we will be holding two (2) pre-training clinics. Players are encouraged to attend at least one clinic prior to the start of the training season. Fee - $50 per clinic

Training Options
Refund Policy
A $45 administrative fee will be charged for any camp cancellation made more than 30 days prior to the camp start date. No refund will be given for any cancellation made within 30 days of camp start date. SportsEngine offers the option to purchase camp insurance for an additional fee at the time of camp registration, which covers camp fees if players are unable to participate due to injury, illness, etc. Vision VBC will not provide refunds in these situations, subject to the 30-day timeline noted above.
Staff
From playing to coaching, Sam has been around the beach game for a long time. He grew up playing on the beach courts in Santa Cruz, has experience as both a head and assistant coach at the D1 collegiate level, and was the architect for the creation of the Cal Poly Beach volleyball program. At Cal Poly Sam served as Head Coach for 2 seasons (2014-15) before hiring Olympic God Medal medalist Todd Rogers to take over the program in 2016. During this time Sam served as an assistant from 2016-2018 under Rogers where he learned invaluable training techniques, skill development drills, and tactical game plans to be successful in a wide range of conditions. Sam is currently in his first year at West Valley College where he is the Head Coach for both indoor and beach programs for the Vikings.

Objectives- Attack approach footwork, arm swings, offensive attack options/shots. Hand/Platform setting techniques, set locations, situational setting. Players will be divided onto courts by skill levels.

Session 3 – Defense – Intermediate/Advanced (Grades 6 - 12)
Wednesday, June 19 3:00pm – 4:30pm
Objectives- Digging and shot run downs, eye work against attackers, blocking techniques, and situational defense. Players will be divided onto courts by skill levels.
